Meet the Skipper

Your skipper is Harry Mcadam, that’s him on the right. Harry’s lived in the Bay all his life and is never far from the sea. Owning his own fishing boat was always a dream so Harry’s only goal is to make sure you have a great time aboard the Paignton Belle and come back again.

Mackerel fishing is great fun for beginners and experienced fisherman alike and Harry knows all the best jigging spots in the Bay!

You’ll use a string of lures together with a pear-shaped lead weight attached at the lower end of the string. Lower this slowly, jigging it up and down as you do so, until you feel a fish strike. It as easy as that…

If you reach the seabed without a bite, wind in a few turns and jig the lures a few times at that level, repeating the process until you reach the surface.

No luck? Try again…

The English Riviera Global Geopark

English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark – One of Earth’s extraordinary places!

Our Geopark, covering the entire area of Torbay, is Naturally Inspiring. It shares stories of a landscape untouched by glaciation unseen elsewhere in the world. Stories of tropical seas and scorching deserts, raised beaches and drowned forests, hippopotami and mammoth, straight-tusked elephant and sabre-toothed tiger, cave bear and earliest man…

How Will You Eat Yours?

We love fishing and we love to eat the catch too! When cooked the mackerel is really creamy and is full of omega-3 fatty acids. Mackerel is best eaten fresh and can be grilled, smoked or fried. It’s rumoured to improve brain power so an ideal starter fish for the kids!
